Privacy Policy & Cookies
1. Who we are
ZimMula is a digital lending service operated by Zexcel Technology Private Limited (“ZimMula”, “we”, “us”), a licensed credit provider in the Republic of Zimbabwe. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use the ZimMula website, web application, or related services (together, the “Services”), how we use and protect it, and the choices you have.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Cyber and Data Protection Act [Chapter 12:07] of Zimbabwe and other applicable law.
2. When this policy applies
This policy applies whenever you access the Services — on any device — including browsing this website, checking your eligibility, applying for a loan, or contacting our support team. By using the Services you accept the practices described here. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Services.
3. The information we collect
We collect only what we need to lend to you responsibly:
- Identity & contact details — your name, national ID, date of birth, phone number, and address, used to verify who you are (KYC).
- Employment & income details — your employer, payroll or employee number, and salary information. Because ZimMula loans are repaid through salary deduction and your limit is based on your income, this information is essential to offering you a loan.
- Mobile money account details — the wallet we disburse your loan to.
- Transaction & repayment history — your loans, installments, and repayment record with us, which form part of how each new application is assessed.
- Referral information — if you share your personal invite link, we record which approved applications came through it so that we can pay your referral reward. Your invitees never see your personal data, and you never see theirs.
- Device & usage data — basic technical information such as device type, browser, and pages visited, used for security and to improve the Services.
4. How we use your information
- To verify your identity and assess your loan eligibility and limit;
- To process your application, disburse funds, and administer your repayment schedule;
- To arrange salary-deduction repayments with the relevant payroll administrator;
- To credit referral rewards you have earned;
- To provide customer support and respond to your requests;
- To detect and prevent fraud, money laundering, and misuse of the Services;
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations as a licensed lender;
- To improve the Services and, with your consent, to tell you about offers and new products.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.
5. Salary deduction and your employer
Repayment by salary deduction requires us to exchange a limited set of information — such as your name, employee number, and installment amount — with your employer’s payroll administrator or the applicable deduction platform. We share only what is strictly necessary to set up, run, and stop deductions, and nothing about how you use your loan.
6. When we share information
We disclose personal information only to:
- payroll administrators and deduction platforms, as described above;
- mobile money and payment providers, to disburse and receive funds;
- credit registries or bureaus, where required or permitted by law;
- regulators, law enforcement, or courts, when legally obliged;
- service providers who process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality obligations (for example, hosting and analytics).
If our business is reorganised, merged, or transferred, your information may move with it, subject to the same protections.
7. Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. ZimMula uses a minimal set of cookies and similar technologies to keep the site working (for example, remembering your session) and to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use our pages so we can improve them. Cookies do not collect personal information by themselves; where cookie data can be linked to you, it is treated as personal information under this policy. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings — parts of the Services may work less smoothly as a result.
8. How we protect and retain your data
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, access controls, and operational safeguards, and we require the same of our processors. No system is perfectly secure, so we also encourage you to protect your own account — see section 10.
We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purposes above, or as long as the law, our licence conditions, or a contract requires — after which it is deleted or anonymised.
9. Your rights
Under the Cyber and Data Protection Act, you may:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
- ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- ask us to delete information we no longer have grounds to keep;
- object to, or withdraw consent for, marketing communications at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 12. We will respond within a reasonable time and may need to verify your identity first.
10. Keeping your account safe
Keep your password, mobile money PIN, and one-time codes to yourself — ZimMula staff will never ask for them, and we will never ask you to pay money to receive a loan. If you receive a suspicious call or message, please read our fraud-awareness guidance and report it on one of our official support lines.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version, with its “last updated” date, will always be available on this page, and material changes take effect when posted here. Please check back periodically.
